VALENTINE's DAY PARTY
valentine's day party

Invite your guests for a hearty surprise! Hugs and kisses, games and fun, a yummy treat and lots of Valentine craft activities to your guests hearts' content!

INVITATIONS:

Stir in a bit of romance and mystery into Valentine's Day - turn your party invitation into a puzzle your guests will have fun putting together!
Print the template on a cardstock or heavy paper. Mark where and when your party will be held. Using a crafting knife, cut out the puzzle pieces. Put an unmade puzzle invitation in an envelope and mail or deliver to each guest.
For Valentine Envelopes check out our Valentine Envelopes project.

SETTING:

Hearts, flowers, hugs and kisses everywhere. Pink, red and white as the color theme. Use colored paper to make different sized hearts and hand them around the room and the ceiling. Decorate a white table cloth by stitching small red paper hearts on in a scattered order (one stitch will do). Use bigger paper hearts as place mats for the table.

PARTY:

As your guests arrive present them with a clip on paper heart with their name on it. Start your party with craft activities. Instead of traditional Valentine paper crafts let your guests create their own Valentine toiletries which they can later give as a gift to someone. Many of the KFC kits can be converted into Valentine craft project by adding red and pink mica, glitter or die to the basic recipe. Among our favorites are Valentine Red Heart Soaps and Red & Pink Bath Salts:

To make a Red/Pink Heart Valentine Soap you'll need our red, pink Melt & Pour bases and heart shaped soap molds. You melt and pour the soap base into heart shape soap molds. It takes about an hour for the soap to solidify - you can use this time for games and other activities. Make your soaps truly unique by adding our heart shaped glitter, tea rose fragrance or romance fragrance. For picture instructions on soap making check out our Confetti Soap and Oatmeal, Milk & Honey Bar recipes.
Our other favorite are Valentine Bath Salts that will look exceptional packaged in heart shaped bottles. Checkout Bath Salts recipe for picture instructions.

Let your guests decorate and label their products. Have colored paper, scissors and crayons handy. Checkout our Valentine Labels Clip Art collection:

Distribute small sheets of colored paper for your guests to write a Valentine message. These Valentine messages will fit nicely to our cute Valentine Envelopes . Use one of the labels from Valentine Labels Clip Art as a seal.

After this "hard" work it's high time for fun and games, or did someone whisper"snacks"?:) Should you choose tummy treats skip this section and move to the next. For those who chose entertainment over alimentation here's a list of games that can make your heart leap.

Heart Search Before the party cut out paper hearts and think of fun tasks for your guests to act out. Hide the hearts around the house and instruct your guests to find all of them. When a heart is found the group has to act out whatever is written on the heart. You can keep track of who found a heart first and who performed the task the best. Winners can be awarded at the end.

Valentine Charades On stripes of paper write Valentine theme notions, phrases or words. Ex "cupid", "Valentine", "heart" for younger children or something more difficult like "love bug" or "in love" for teenagers; as extra fun you can think of something completely made up, ex "Valentine Soap" or "Valentine Pretzel". Distribute the stripes between 2 teams. A team calls out one person from the opposite team and gives him the paper stripe with the Valentine phrase. The person called has to act out, you can't speak, what's written on the paper and his team has to guess what's that word or phrase is. This is one of the best times to have a camera or video around.

Colored Hearts This is a fun game for younger kids. Have different color hearts scattered around the room. Play the music and let the kids run around. When the music stops a parent or one of the kids call a color "pink", "red", "yellow" etc. Once the color is called everyone should pick up the heart with this color. Those who failed are taken out of the game. The last to stay in the game wins. You can play this game couple of times - kids seem not to be tired of this game ever!

Take photos throughout the night to remember the event.

SNACKS:

A hearty meal of strawberry jam or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut out with a heart shaped cookie cutter, heart shaped red finger jelly, red heart cookies and a big heart shaped cake to crown it all! Did you know that..

History of Valentine's Day:

The history of Valentine's Day and its patron saint is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance.

One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men - his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.

According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl who may have been his jailor's daughter who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.
